EFI engine prep for storage

I just finished what may be the second last drive in my 89 Mustang, before I pull it into the shop to part it out.

Given my current rate of progress on my 55, it may be a while ( 5 years) before the engine and trans function again.

Any suggestions on what to do to prepare that engine trans for storage for this time period. I'm planning on squirting some oil into the cylinders just before yanking the motor and I'm thinking about running some fuel stabilizer through the fuel system before I shut it down. I recently changed the engine oil and filter so it has a reservoir of synthetic in the crankcase.

Would it be wise to remove the fuel rail and injectors and let the fuel drain and evaporate. I want to use the Mustang fuel pump. Should I remove it, drain and allow complete evaporation of fuel.

I would appreciate any comments.

I'd probably do what you've outlined. Keep in mind any O-rings exposed to air will deteriorate, but they should be replaced anyway in 5 years when you rebuild. Stored inside or out I'd drain the coolant.

Seal all openings to keep rodents and bugs out of intake, coolant, exhaust, vacuum passages, etc.

I agree with sealing all the holes and draining the coolant.

I swaped a 5.0L/AOD from an '86 Lincoln MkVII inot my '53 Mercury M100.
It sat inside my garage for a couple of years after I drove the MKVII into the garage and parted it out and sold off everything I didn't want.

I cleaned and detailed the engine, cleaned the fuel rails, had the injectors sent out for cleaning, cleaned & polished the intake plenuum. I didn't do muchy else but turn it over by hand, every few months.

Started up with little problem when we got the computer & harness back together in it's new home!

John,

I seem to recall reading somewhere on FTE (perhaps another forum) that guys spray "Marvel Mystery Oil" into the clyinders for this purpose. Never heard of it before...not even sure if it's available in Cda......

The name sounds a hokey but they seem to swear by it.....

Thanks guys,

My neighbor mentioned some stuff that he sprays inside his snowblower engine each spring and he says this stuff sticks to everything inside the chamber instead of eventually dripping off as oil would. Sounds like a variation of the mystery oil.

I also thought about dumping a bit of 2 cycle oil into the gas and then running it empty. I thought the oil would provide that little bit of protection as the gas evaporated away.

Am I making a mountain out of a mole hill here?

Thanks again guys
