Automatic hubs

The automatic hubs on my '96 Ranger (manual trans) are engaging on thier own during a slow speed turn, like turning from one residential street onto another. The truck is not in 4-wheel drive at the time. Any suggestions?

Re: Automatic hubs

Your hubs have a spring load. it sounds like your spring is broken causing it to slide into locked position when you turn.

Thanks for the feedback, but I don't see a spring in any of the repair schematics. Is it a non standard looking spring?

There's no vacuum line, I did find a small coil spring around the outside of the inner hub. It was intact and I found no broken or worn parts but alot of dried thick grease around all the parts. After a thorough cleaning, repacking and adjusting the wheel bearings, everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for your help.
