is this normal

i just intalled a voltmeter guage in my truck and when i start the truck up, the guage reads around 12 or so for about 20 seconds and then it jumps to 14 and stays there, it does this everytime, so just wondering if this is normal or should it read 14 all the time?

I'm pretty sure this is normal, I think the reason is the alternator doesn't start charging immediately after start up. You may notice after first starting up in the dark that your head lights seem to get brighter after a minute or two because of the same reason. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will come on and explain better. I hope this helps.

Mine sits at 12VDC before and shortly after start up and maintains 14 - 14.6VDC when running.
