i have a 2001 f-350,4x4,v-10,CC,srw,lariat.i recently put on american racing baja 16 by 9.75 alloys with bfg/at/ko's 33x12.50/16.at speeds 60mph and faster the whole truck vibrates real bad.i have had the wheels re-balanced four times and the problem is still there.the tire dealer says there is nothing wrong with the wheels.the other day i put the factory wheels back on and no more vibration.i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if it could be factory shock related?
I had the same problem on my 2000 CC, except with 35" tires. HAd them balanced 4 times before a guy in the shop suggested they be balanced on the tire balancer they use to balance semi truck tires. I have not had a problem since.
thanks for the help!now that you mention it,the place i bought the wheels seemed to have a hard time ballanceing them.ill go to my local truck shop tomorrow and give them a try.
Make sure the tires are not out-of-round. I had a tire that was that way on a Jeep I used to have and it made the whole truck shake. I've also had tires so out of balance I couldn't get over 30 mph without the truck almost shaking itself apart.
I had the same problem. Make sure the tire dealer is using the HUB centric method to balance the tires, and not the LUG centered method. The hub on these trucks is what centers the tires, not the lugs.
Stock wheels are in fact hub-centric. Most aftermarket wheels however are lug centric. In any case however I would suggest using a "road force balancer". This computerized balancer applies pressure to the tire and wheel assembly to simulate the pressure applied while on the road. This machine will also "match" the tire to the wheel. Wheels are not perftect and tires are not either so if you have a heavy spot on a wheel and it lines up with a heavy spot on a tire, you compound the problem. One other advantage of this machine is it will tell you if the tire is out of round. Your local Discount Tire Co. store should be able to perform this service for you.
i called a place that deals with truck and equipment tires and they said most tire chain dealers ntb and sears dont know how to deal with bigger wheels.he told me they use a road force balancer and they should have no trouble finding the problem.thanks for all your help!
