I just got a phone message from my dealer. It's six weeks and no vin# yet. He said that Ford told him there is a problem getting the captains chairs and thats holding the order up. I ordered the captains chairs in a Lariat in the tan leather on Jan 16. Anybody else order around that time that still dosen't have a vin? Let me know.
Oh man Mike, as you know, I also went for the captains chairs. Hope it's not gonna be a problem. I ordered 3 weeks after you. I just saw a guy in my town today with a white Lariat - at least he had the beige bottom though.
I ordered the captain's chairs in tan leather, too. My dealer hasn't given me a VIN (I haven't asked for one) but I have been told by two different salesmen that my truck should be built no later than March 3.
My Lariat with tan leather captains chairs was ordered on 2/18, I have a build date of "the week of 3/15." This information is from VOPC, not my dealer...
From this point if my experience is similar to what others have posted, my truck will be delivered on the shorter side of the 6-8 weeks my dealer said it would be.

Ordered Lariat (w/ tan Captain's Chairs) on Jan 2nd. Dealership actually placed order with factory on Jan 8th. I've been driving my truck since Feb 5th!
I don't know the size/volume of your dealership. Mine is rather large and in the middle of Texas -- #1 truck sales in US. This helps us get them faster, etc.
My dealer is largest volume i Missouri, still no truck, but I understand they crew plant was building something else for last few weeks, dealer was probably just jerking me though.
Curious that "captains chairs" are to blame for the hold. The seats are the same seats used in the 40/20/40 split. It must be the console that is really the hold-up.
I was told by a dealer in Atlanta that they were making no more captains chairs this year. However, that is a total lie. Dealers will tell you anything to try and persuade you to buy a truck on the lot. I ordered my truck Feb 6. It is being built this week with captains chairs. I have verified with VOPC. I should receive the truck within 2 to 3 weeks. Not sure why it takes some trucks longer than others to be built, but my gut feeling is that it has something to do with the allocation of the dealer you order from and the priority code they put on your order.
I think the allocation is part of the problem. The dealer was showing me the computer screen and said you ordered Jan 16 and here is the order going in on Feb 1. So it looks like they waited until the 1st of Feb to place the order. What ever happened to all those honest car salesmen?
I got my 2004 late last year with captain's chairs. Wish I hadn't ordered them. They are the most uncomfortable seats I've ever had in a truck, and I've had a new Ford pickup pretty much every 5 years since my '69! I'm a big guy, and the shape of the seat is not for people my size! Wife is not so big, but she complains about the back being uncomfortable. Lumbar adjustment is too low in the back, bucket portion is too deep, and there's not enough adjustment to make it better. I'm tempted to put the seats from my 1999 into the new truck, except the seat belt arrangment won't allow it.
If the dealer says no more Captain's Chairs, maybe it in response to all the complaints.
Every week we get a list of "hard-to-get" items from Ford. Right now, captain's chairs in an FX4 or Lariat are being held to 26% of total FX4/ Lariat production. I think djLariat is exactly right; it's the CONSOLE that's the problem, not the seat itself. If it were the seat, then the "captain's chairs" on the XLT would also be hard to get, but there are no production issues there.
