I just got my 97 4.0 SOHC back from the dealer last night after having the chain tensioner and lower intake orings replace, I had 85k miles so it cost me almost $500. I had told them that I wanted the guides replaced too, since they were covered under the ONP, and he said if they are worn they will replace them. Big &$*&@# suprise when I got it back I am still hearing a random sort of chain dragging sound at around 1000-2500 rpm. I have a huge suspicion that it is the guide and those dumb *&^#$*& 's didn't even think about replacing the guides. What do yall think?????
No and No, It just mentioned the kit, which includes o-rings and gaskets, and the tensioner. It sounds like a loose rattle chain dragging, noticeable under the hood, but more so if the door is open and i give it gas or while driving with the window down, if there are buildings on either side. It has definatlely improved, but being I just bought this thing 2 weeks ago I have no benchmark for what is "normal" . I sure wish I would have asked for the old parts, I will definately do that next time. I won't have time to confront them until Monday, but I will definately let you know the outcome.
I think the dealer just wacked you. I had my chain tensioner and lower intake O-rings done for free. There is a update on thoughs parts and the dealer is to replace them if there is a problem.
