6 Liter Poll!

How many 04 6 Liter owners do we have here in Florida?
I'm thinking about buying a 6 Liter or I may buy an 03 7.3L.

Please show if your truck is stock or modified, and if modified what has been done to it (including a tuner or inline device of some sort).

I want to be sure I make the right choices!

thanks,

Having had both a 7.3 and 6-oh X I can say there is NO comparison between the two....
I know some have had issues with the early 03 6.0,
but I had issues with the 02 7.3 and 4 speed !
That's why I have the April build 03 X in my gallery....

I can tell u it is a MONSTER compared to the 7.3 ....
just a all around better X than the 02 Limited Ultimate I had...

On the 7.3 I had a superchips mincrotuner that helped it,
and now on the 6.0 I have the diablo predator...
so I'm comparing somewhat modded apples to oranges...

the predator on the +65hp setting makes this 8K lb X feel like a small sports car !!!!
the +100 hp was just for play a day or two and it was even more radical

the 6.0 does have a turbo lag when stock, but with the predator, I don't have time to notice any stinkin turbo lag !!!

I can only speak from my experience - it's the best travelling vehicle I've ever owned... and with the predator, it's one of the quickest... well not quite, but respectable....

on edit... the 6.o stock was more than enough motor for most, but straight piped and with the programmer, it's just 'nicer'...
even got compliments from the techs at the dealership about it...
and they have access to some really nice toys :-)

I have a 03 6.0, one of the "bad" early motors, C94 injectors and all. I absolutely love the truck. The engine pulls like a train. My only complaint is that when my wife drives it, she barks the tires and yesterday (in the wet), the back end tried to "step out" on her. The truck is box stock, but I'm having a leveling kit installed Monday. For a truck that weighs 7800# on the scales, you can't beat it. The only problem I've had with the motor has been a leaking rear main, which was fixed. I recommend DUVAL Ford in Jacksonville. I drove 50 miles to buy the truck there, and drive 50 miles to have it serviced (passing 2 other Ford dealers on the way)

Wish I lived closer!!!!

Took a gander at my "weeping seal", looks a bit worse today, and I'm gonna take her back in on Monday..Not real happy about another trans removal, but not only do I want it fixed, but documented as well..

Thinking about the "Predator" myself, cause it seems that I,ve lost some power since the last flash..Not 100% sure but just seems that way..I want some extra ponies, but don't want extra smoke?? Some extra MPG would be nice too!! Any Diablo Predators have any insite here???

"Think" it's like adding Balast to the Titanic with C94's??

If I could get rid of my Main leak, and Turbo/Drone, I would be "more than happy" with not only the looks/finish and perfomance of my truck.. It's a blast to drive!!!!!!!

I have an 04 f350 and so far love it the only problem that i have occured is a leaking valve cover gasket and since fixed hasn't been another problem. As for durability i live in vero beach and our dodge dealer just had an 03 f250 that already had 240000 miles on it so i without a doubt think it is reliable. The power end of the deal is spectacular for a 7500 # truck it has a sports car get up and go i love my truck and would not trade it for anything else.

I

I too have an early 03. 2nd rear main. I think they got it right this time. If it leaks again, they will get Ford in to look at it.

If you have an 03 engine you lost both fuel economy and power with the Oct flash which is incorporated into the Dec (last) flash. I complained about that and documented it. Ford area rep told the service manager that there was a new flash to fix the fuel economy issue coming out "mid first quarter 2004" That time frame will have passed tomorrow. I hate to have to buy a Predator to get what I bought to start with.

There are a lot of 03 engines running around out there with C94 injectors. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a 2003 F250 SC/SD Lariat FX4, 3.73, 6.0L PS, bone stock with 18,653 mi. It was built in April '03, with an engine manufacture date of 22Apr03, (a Tuesday), purchased in August of '03, has had no reflashes. The only problem has been idle fluctuations between 450-850 rpm when cold. I live in NE FL near the GA border, and have used this truck extensively on logging roads in both wet and dry conditions, as well as highway driving, and some light towing (3000#). Mileage has been 15.9 MPG in town/off road/towing and 17.5 to 19 MPG on highway depending upon speed and conditions. I am totally happy with my truck- so far (reading some of the posts here is ...disconcerting, to say the least). I owned a 1988 7.3L non Power Stroke with a Banks Turbo, and there is no comparison in power and torque between the two IMO. I hope that I get as much trouble free mileage out of the 6.0L as I did from the 7.3L. Time will tell;so far so good.

I would still shy away from the 6.0. My has been nothing but a headache after 1800 miles. At above 2000 RPM it will sometimes blow blue smoke. The dealer reflashed it, and all that did was make it noisy. The tell me that I am the problem. My local Dodge dealer drove it, and said it was probably the turbo that was the problem. The build date on the truck was 1-8-04. I don't know the build date on the motor, because the dealer is trying to fix it for the 3rd time.

I live in Mims and just bought a 250XLT with the 6.0 I have put about 600 miles on it sor far and it is averaging 16 to 17 mpg. I REALLY ENJOY IT . The only concern I ahve is why are there no gauges for EGT on the truck? This is my first diesel but all the reading I've done indicates that this is a critical thing to monitor to insure your turbo longevity.

Funny thing is, you don't find EGT gauges on ant turbo truck or car fro the factory. The reason being that as long as the car/truck stays stock, the tune of it won't allow the egts to become a concern. It's when you start moding it that you have to watch out.
