Huh???? How are you going to recover the $4000 in 30,000 miles? Even if you get DOUBLE the fuel economy (10 vs 20) You'd burn 1500 gallons of gas vs. 3000 gallons of fuel. I won't EVEN comment that right now regular is a dime cheaper than diesel here in Vegas. But @ $1.30 a gallon for both you'd save $ 1,950 in fuel costs in 30,000. Even at 60,000 you you wouldn't be even. Now figure in 3X the costs in oil changes, fuel filters, water separators, interest on the $4000.....I'd be amazed if you'd be even at 100,000 miles!!!
WOW!!
$75 for an oil change.??? Bring them over. I can change mine, (all 16 and the filter) for $35. For the extra $40 I'll even put some grease in all 4 zerks for ya!!
First: The v-10 cost extra also. so the difference is less than the $4500 for the diesel.
2nd: my 01 PSD 4x4 6 speed gets 20/21 MPG. no V-10 can come close to that! I will recover the extra cost of the diesel
inside 30,000 miles.
As far as the extra noise. talk to some of the kids who play thier music (sic) so it can be herd a county or two away. There is a product out called "Road Kill" The only people who can here my truck running are on the outside.
We can kick this around till were all blue in the face. Blue Oval that is.
Go get one, if you don't like, it trade it in for the other one. I'll still give you a thumbs up when we pass.
of corse I'll be laffing when I pass you and your V-10 while pulling a trailer up a steep hill. I'll only chuckle a little bit when I pass twice as many gas stations as you. We all get it in the end.
America's Great. Thank you all for making it that way :-)
I'm reading all this way late in the game. I work on the V-10s and the psd every day. The only thing I can say is if you can afford a new F250 4WD optioned out and a 5th wheel camper and be able to travel all over the country, why would you be so concerned about a lousy $75.00 PM Service?
I've had both v-10 and now the psd......For my use, trailering a 6200 # 2 wheel drive pulling truck in a 24' enclosed Timberwolf trailer there is absolutely no comparison....The Powerstroke....
I agree. You can't go wrong. Both are awesome in their own way. Both have their advantages. Both have their disadvantages. Both beat the heck out of the 2.2 liter 4-cylinder Toyota I used to drive (I know, I know. . . and I'm very ashamed. . . but I'm in counseling!!!) I'm really enjoying my PSD right now, and I changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, and bought a grease gun and topped off the zerks, and spent $70.00. I'm paying about $26.00 for 4 Gals of Rotella T, and the fuel filter was about $10.00. Took me less than an hour to do it all. I actually enjoyed it. Of course, having your 4-year old son crawling around with you under your Ford truck is a blessing in itself! It just don't get much better!!!! He still wants to know who's gonna "fix the old one", referring to the oil filter. He can't quite get his little mind around the fact that I took it off and it wasn't broken!!!
In a perfect world, I'd have enough money to buy one of each, a V10 AND a PSD! Oh well. . .
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Nov-01 AT 03:25 PM (EST)]Well, i was at wal-mart the other day, and i saw a four door-diesel-dually............and i about had a mess in my pants when he started it up........I'd buy it for the sound alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just buy a gas motor, run it without oil for a while, when it throws a rod you have that great diesel sound AND saved $4,000!!!!
I have 2002 F350 V-10 3.73 6 speed
My bother has the same but PSD
We pull the same weight and hills.
V-10 pulls 15mph slower on all hills.
That's OK I HAVE $4,000
Maybe I'm not typical, and the rest of you are better with your money than I am, but I wouldn't have the $4,000 even if I bought the V10. I'd just go blow it on something else, like a new firearm or 3, or something. Also, it has been my experience that EVERY TIME I FIND MYSELF WITH SOME MONEY, SOME BILL COLLECTOR FINDS OUT ABOUT IT AND WANTS IT. And, finally, I have decided that as long as I have both a wife AND a Wal-Mart SuperCenter here in town, I'll never be rich anyway!!!!!
Hey rotorhead, You had mentioned earlier something about being the envy of every man in a Mini-van. Something to that effect anyway. I just want you to know that you really kicked my puppy when you said that. I walked out to the garage and looked bewildered at my 2002 F350 S/C Lariat PSD as it sits next to my wifes Windstar. How will I ever cope with this situation? :-) Enjoy your Fords everyone, no matter what type of fuel they use.
