transmission swap

I have a 1996 f-250 with a 460 and a 5 speed manual. Is the new 6 speed interchangable with the old 5 speed. I'd like to put a 6 speed in my truck if it's possible.

I'm not sure though I thought the 6 speed was designed for diesel engines - the bell housing wouldn't bolt up.

Didn't the 460 and the diesel in those years use the same belhousing bolt pattern? I know the 351/302 used a different bolt pattern.

If you use a diesel trans on a 460 you will have no place to bolt your starter. The diesel bell doesn't have holes for the starter because the starter is bolted to the adapter plate on the diesel.
