Hey all, my blinker switch quit resetting on my '85 f150. Is it as simple as replacing the switch or is there something else in there that may have broke. Is the blinker switch something I can get at NAPA? I've just gotta take the steering column cover off and it's right there, correct???
Ignition switch from dealer ran me around 80 bucks if I remember for my 85 150 without tilt steering.Pull the wheel and take cover off column.Follow wires from switch and you will see where it will unplug on column.I didnt need a pull wire to install new switch,it was accessable enough to just feed it through.
You may need the piece that cancels the blinker. It is called a Turn signal directional cam. A company called Motormite carries them. The part number if you have tilt steering is 49301
without tilt is part number 49304. These were used in many Fords in various years. You can probably find these in stock to look at in an Advance Auto or AutoZone. You may also be able to find them at NAPA, but they will probably sell it in their own brand
Is this directional cam something I've gotta pull the steering wheel to get to? I've never pulled a steering wheel off and was hoping I wouldn't have to. I take it I'd have to buy a steering wheel puller or something of the sorts?
Sorry, I said ignition switch instead of turn signal switch.I couldnt find a cam at parts stores and dealer didnt come up with a replacement cam. I was told I would have to have the whole switch.Yes, you will need a puller to remove wheel to get to the cam.

One side of this little plastic piece broke for me on my right turn, sig. in my 86. So I found one in the junk yard and just replaced that piece, since the wiring harness was different, on mine the blinkers would always stay on unless you clicked them off manually, is this the same prob. your having or do you have to hold down the lever to keep them blinking? My dad had that prob. in his 79. He used pieces out of my old one to repair his.
if you get the entire harness from the ford dealer it will cost around $88.00 if you have tilt steering. there is a couple of other recent post on here that i have posted on that tells how to replace the harness. i had to replace mine the other day, its a little time consuming but an easy fix.

My blinker always stays on, both directions. The blinker quit cancelling about a month ago when we were having sub zero temperatures.
