starter shot?

Recently when starting f250 she seems like she dont want to crank over, real slow. Today she wouldnt crank over and I tried a few times and battery died so I popped hood and my battery cables were melting. Should I start with the starter? I just put it in a few months ago and I do have a warranty so I shouldnt have to pay anything. Any help is appreciated!

The battery cables may be shot. They may be corroded inside the insulation.
They could be loose at the terminal also.

no they were brand new cables and recently checked when it began to start rough. I took out the starter tonight and the housing surrounding the teeth was actually cracked. put in new starter and it is starting better but now I wonder what caused it to crack.

Had to put a rebuilt starter in my 86 351W end bushing was shot, this caused some jumping around of the armature..might have caused the cracks. George
