lowering a '59

Hello. I recently had a '59 half ton given to me. The idea is to make it sort of a budget hotrod to cruise around with occasionally, by no means a daily driver. Is it possible to lower it about 4-6" all around without swapping in another suspension? I haven't picked it up yet and this is my first venture into ford territory, so I don't know what this thing has for suspension. Is it a straight axle up front? If so can I just flip it? I think the rear will be easy enough. The plan when its done is to have a lowered, primer black, steel-wheeled, straight/side-piped, dodge 440 powered '59. Any input greatly appreciated.

Jeff,
welcome to the board. all of your questions get asked and answered regularly here. look at the top of the forum for the topic dealing with suspension alternatives. this should cover all of your initial questions. use the search function on the forum and it will lead you to many answers you might also have.

good luck on your project and keep us posted on your progress.

J.C.

Welcome aboard.
As stated previously go to the "Stickies" to find out about you question.
Oh, & by the way, a 440 D*#@e? Why?
If you want some Kick **** perfomance go to a 430 Lincoln instead mate!
Stick w/ FoMoCo parts & power all the way, then you wind up w/o any problems & still maintain an all FoMoCo ride.
To Cross Polenize FoMoCo w/ anything else, can & will only lead to Major headaches in the long run!

Jeff,

I'd think 3-4 inches is quite doable, but six is going to require some surgery. If you are building on a budget, I'd shoot for 3-4 inches, otherwise you are going to get into much higher costs...
