i am new to this site and have found it to be really helpful. i am having trouble getting the rock shield off that covers the fuel filter on a 86 bronco II, could someone explain what i may be doing wrong...man the filter is really hard to get to....thanxz for any and all help
Yes they are a pain but I guess it is beter that they are protected. There are two (10mm?) nuts that are on top of the frame that screw onto the posts welded on the shield. loosen the back about half and take the front all the way off. Pry the front of the shield down and pivot the stud out of the hole in the frame. It should give you just enough room to get the old out and put the new back. And you will only have to put the front nut back on. I know on mine I don't think I could get the back on if I took it off. Hope this helps...
It sounds like you guys are talking about the rear fuel filter. Do you know the Ford (or other) part number. Most catalogs list only thre front filter. I sure would like to have one in hand before I take mine off to see the part number.
Its the front filter we are talking about.. Its right behing the drivers front fender well in the frame. Sorry I threw my box away last week. Good luck :-)
The rear canister is just a reservoir for the high pressure pump, theres no filter in there. Just change the one under the drivers seat on the frame rail
I just had mine done when I had a new tank installed.
The mechanic was able to change the filter without even removing the guard/bracket. He said it's really easy to do.
i tried it this weekend and still had a problem getting the shield off
i noticed jimmy james said it can be done without removing the shield...so what do you do just reach in...it seems very tight to do that and btw...thanxz to all who have responded
The front filter is a pain to get to. I have an 88 Bronco II and the only way i could get to mine was from underneath with limited space. The back canister i was told is a resevoir with a filter but blowing through mine I think not to east to blow through.
Besides its way to easy to get out for it to be very important and changed often.
I think Jimmy's mechanic beat his old filter out with a hammer and put in the wrong (smaller filter) in it's place if he thinks its easy. haha You did see and loosen the hose clamp holding the filter to the frame right jjtop2? It is hard and I would like to see someone do it without getting an armpit full of gas but if you just get in there you can do it. If not ya might think about Jimmy's mechanic... I would leave that back resevoir alone guys, I played with mine and ended up having to make a new gasket for it and there is no filter in there, so all was for naught...
