I have an 86 Bronco II. I have had the automatic transmission completely rebuilt and it is running great.
I have an intermittent problem where it will not start when the key is turned to the on position.
I have replaced the ingnition starter relay and replaced the battery. If I move the shifter, it may or may not start. If it doesn't then I have to jumpt the start truck using a jumper wire on the relay.
I have asked the shop that rebuilt the tranny and they said that it isn't the relay. The relay only costs $30.00 so I am just thinking if I should go ahead and replace it.
How do the battery cables look? I've seen an intermittent not start caused by a bad connection at the battery cable, corroded cables, or even a bad connection at the starter.
Do you mean it doesn't crank at all or it cranks but won't run. If you have an intermitant no-crank condition chack for 12 volts at the small wire st the solenoid when you turn the key to start. If you don't have 12v then I would look at the safety switch, ingnition switch and wiring. If you do get 12v then look at the solenoid, battery, cables and starter.
The condition is all the dash lights come on and I can hear the fuel pump activate, however, the engine will not crank. I will check for the 12 volts.
Thanks.
I've checked the cables at the battery and have checked for continuity throgh the cable. I didn't look at the cables at the starter. Will also look into this.
