96 Explorer Reverse Function

Hi, any idea why it takes 4-8 seconds before my truck will engage in reverse gear? Thanks

Does it do it all the time, or only when it's cold? Make sure the fluid is completely topped of. Might also consider a flush and filter change.

It seems it started when the cold set in. Thanks for the advice.

This problem is usually associated with leaking low/reverse servo O ring on the piston. This can be accessed easily by dropping the pan. See www.atcdg.com and look in tech under A4LD. You have a 4R55E but this problem extended through this transmision. Reverse is made from first and third. As your transmission gets older, pump pressure drops and seals leak a little more. This is one that you can easily get to and the replacement is an improved double lip seal out of a new material. This could also be valve body problems but this is something you can try for low cost.

Thanks everyone. At least I will have a clue, when I go to the mechanic. Sue
