I need help I have a 2000 f-350 with electronic shift on the fly 4 wheel. m The other day I went to put into 4 wheel and nothing works. Has anyone had this problem is it normal where should I look. Thanks
The most common thing I see is the shift motor on the transfer case. Unplug it and see if you have power goint to the motor in different positions when you use the switch. If everything looks good, replace the motor. If you're not getting power at the motor, check power into and out of the switch. If all is good there, you may have a problem with the GEM module.
Good luck!
The GEM module is usually located up inside the dash and usually has to be programmed when replacing. The only way to test it is with computers so it's usually a dealer item. But like I said, I see more shift motors than anything.
It seams like I had the same problem. I looked behind each front wheel. There is a rubber hose that connects to each hub. I had the hose split where it connects to the hub and come off. All it take is one hose to come off the wheel and the 4X4 won't work. That hose locks each hub when the switch is placed in 4X4. I hope it works for you. That was the problem in my 99 F-250.
Does you 4x4 light come on? Do this, on the passenger side, there is a vaccume pump, see if that is working. Then manually lock your front hubs and see if it works, if it does then it is either the vacume pump, or the vacume lines running down to the hubs. My transfer case motor just went out too, don't feel too bad. I have a question through pertaining to this subject. My transfer case motor has 2 connections on the shift motor. One has 6 wires and one has 2 larger wires. I tested for power with a testor, and i did not have anypower in any of the positions of the 4x4 switch in the cab going to the connector of the 2 wire plug. The 6 wires plug had power to all 6 when in 2hi, and then had power all but one in 4hi and 4lo. What does the 2 wire plug do? Is it supposed to have power? Does the GEM control all this? Will a code reader from the local parts store be able to help me diag. this?
Thats the weird thing about mine. It is a stuck in 4x4, it will shift into 4lo, but takes some sweet talkin to her to come out, i told my folks she just wants to go mud boggin LOL.
mine was working in 4 low unless i really got in a bind...i took it to the dealer and they changed the auto lockers.....went out and tested it...didnt fix the problem...took it back...they called and said the vacum seals were bad on the half shaft on one side...they replace the seals and one half shaft ...no charge since i had already spent 400 on the auto lockers.....everything works like it should now....although 4 hi is real high and you really cant tell its in 4hi unless turning or on dry ground
well guys checked the vacum lines going to the hubs all is good. Disconnected one line and no suction. Is there supposed to be suction their. I am confused this has really thrown me for a loop. Where can I get a hold of a actual ford manual for this truck. What about the haynes how does it compare. Also if any of you guys have questions about anything that partains to body work please feel fre to asked that is what I do for a living.
Well actual i do have a question. A chain hit the top of my cab on my 00 f250 when i buried it, the guy pulling it out gassed her too soon and there was slack in the chain. I made some indents in the top of my cab. Insurance is going to cover it, will they be able to just install a new top, or is it going to be the whole cab?
78fordman, that sucks, well it depends on how bad the damage is. If it is not ot bad they will repair it with pulling the metal out to as close to the original shape as possible then filling the small imperfections with body filler. Very simple repair. They may have to remove the headliner so check for grease fingerprints when picking it up. If the damage is very extensive which it doesnt sound like it is, they will replace just the roof. If you pull the seal back that is above the door opening seal you will see the spot welds that hold the roof on and that is where they will replace it at. But it sounds like they will just repair yours and that is better. Hope that helps good luck hope it turns out ok for you.
