'99 F-350, V-10 of coarse, a little over 70K, live in Wyoming, K&N filter, no other mods. Recently it dies right after starting. It doesn't seem to be related to outdoor temp. Might be more likely to do it after truck has sat for a few hours/days. Took 6 starts this morning before it would stay running. I have pushed on the throttle once before and it would start then as well. But it doesn't do it every time.????????
I hate to do a sounds like, but it sounds like the iac [idle air control].They seem to stick sometimes messing up the air at idle.If it is this, it will probaly be ok at anything above idle,it just wont idle.Mine does it occasionally.
ps: dont over-oil the K+N filter,it will coat the mass air wire and cause problems.

If it will run by you helping with the gas pedal but refuses to idle or will idle but too low RMP, it sound like idle aur control to me also. I had exact same proble on my Windstar (3.8 L). To fix it, I took it off and clean the carbon out of plunger area with carb cleaner (careful not to let cleaner run into the solenoid area. I also sprayed a little lubricant inot solenoid area. Has been good as new since (about a month now). Very easy to do at least on the 3.8L.
Thanks for the responces!!
Just to reitterate the symptom: Engine sounds like it is going to run, but immediately dies after releaseing key in start possition.
I'll try finding and "cleaning" the IAC.

I feel this can be blamed on the K&N letting in too much dirt. I'm getting rid of mine soon.
MONSTA, Do you recomend the above "cleaning" proceedurew, or just buy another? I guess it's one of those situations where you don't know if it works 'till after the repair.
I had a similar problem and I think it was a fuel injection sensor. When I would start the truck it would die if I let off the gas. It would do this everytime. I would have to keep my foot on the gas and keep the engine running around 1,500 rpm. After about four or five minutes I would hear a faint swoosh sound and then the engine would run fine. Once it warmed up, starting and stopping the engine was fine. It only did it when it was cold.

I tend to try the inexpensive solutions first. If it doesn't work, then replace it.
Some have cleaned theirs and it didn't change anything until they replaced it altogether.
I'm having the same problem on the opening day of bowhunting season here in Colorado... All the anticipation and now I'm stuck at home, angry as can be...
live2hunt, did you happen to find a solution to your problem? I also have a K&N air filter on my F-350 V10. It will turn over fine, but then stalls immediately after it cranks...
What a bummer, I was all psyched to be up in the mountains...
