I have a 97 Ranger XLT, 4.0 and OD trans. Problem is when I stop my brakes grind like it is metal to metal. I have replaced pads, shoes, had drums and rotors turned, everything I could think of on the brakes. After about a week of silent braking, it started again. Anyone else have this happen? What to do?
The noise is coming from the front disks only. The pads I removed were FOMOCO pads and weren't worn but about 2/3's. They were grinding too, that is the reason I replaced them.
You need feel alone no longer edzoldford. My 98 3.0 does the same thing. I had the rotors turned and machined twice within a year and a half of getting it (Had it 6.5 now). Then I finally realized that its not going to go away and quit throwing good money after bad. One person told me that they may not have put anti-squealing stuff on the pads. And these were factory pads. So I don't know. Lemme know if you get it figured out.
I put the pads on myself so I know they have the anti-squeal on them. The pads I used are semi-metallic. I have heard somewhere to cut grooves into the face of the pads with an abrasive disk to stop this problem but haven't had time to try it. Something about air getting under the pad and causing it to sound like a grind. If this doesn't work I will switch to organic pads.
every ford i've owned had this problem my 88 bronco 2 , 97 ranger ,98 expy, 2001 ranger. I just make sure i change them before it realy gets metal to metal
