Going to rebuild my Edelbrock 1405 this weekend. Thought I'd throw in a spacer while I was at it. Curious though about the correct type.
Lookin my FT manual I see the stock intake has four holes but looking at Edelbrock's site I see every configuration but. So what would you guys do. I'm assuming the four hole config is for a reason so I add a spacer of a different config there might be some consequences one way or another, good or bad.
Anyone know what the plane spec is on the stock intake manifold? Single plane, dual plane, what?????
Should be a dual plane...Single plane manifolds are generally for upper rpm performance and not very good for low end power or road manners. I'm not real shure about the spacer question but i'm shure someone else can help. Good luck with your truck.

1. Dual (Two) plane: (currently what I am running)
This works well if you are using a dual plane manifold and just want the carb spacer in for heat/cooling purposes. Also for a better burn. A good thickness would be 1/2" or 1".
2. 4 hole design: Would be my second choice
This works well for a more torque feel. A good thickness 1".
3. Open design:
This works well for a more hp feel. Usually felt at higher RPM's. A good thickness is 1".
Now they all come made in different materials, so I would recommend doing some research and finding what will work best for your application. I was more interested in reducing the temp of the carb (carb boil) so I went with the 1/2" wood laminate from Edelbrock. Works great for my app...our SouthWest summers are pretty harsh.
The stock intake is set up for the front four cylinders to be fed by one side of the carb – both the primary and secondary and the back four cylinders from the other side of the carb. Assuming your manifold is like mine (`85 460), if you do not use a four hole gasket at the manifold you will have a vacuum leak.
When I removed my EGR plate I used a two (2) inch four hole spacer. Only problem was finding studs long enough for a spacer that thick.
I went with a 2" 4 hole swirl spacer as well. Buy proper gaskets for it. Spacer seems to give me better low end torque. It's aluminum . . . bought it from Jeg's but couldn't tell you what brand. I think in their catalog it's just a 2" swirl spacer.
hey all, i have a general question about carb spacers, when do you need to use them?
i'm planning on getting a stealth intake with an edelbrock carb, am i going to need to use a spacer and if i do, how thick and i'm assuming the 4-hole kind....
