I am working on an 88 Ford 460 motor, Since I had to remove the manifold, I had to pull the distributor first. After removing the distributor, I happened to look at the gear, and found that it looked as though there was a lot of wear on the teeth. A couple looked really really galled. From what I could tell, the camshaft gear looked ok.. Does anyone know if this is common, or have seen this before?

Yep, and as you guessed usually it takes the cam with it.........this is due to cam walk............check your cam the best you can, if it looks ok throw another gear on the dist, but pull it and take a look see every now and then.........often wipes out a cam lobe also........
