I recently had a Sony cd player installed into my 98' Econoline and now I cant get any bass from my speakers even with the bass cranked up. Any ideas on what it could be? It would really be helpful. Thanks.
I have the same problem. Go buy some quality speakers, they are 6x8 not 5x7.... Replace all 6 of them. Then you will get your bass back, that or go buy 2 tens and a good amp...
Check to make sure that you have the polarity correct on the hookups (+ to +, - to -) even if you are sure, try to reverse them. Also check to make sure that you have good power going to the head unit. Beyond that, I agree with pfogle.
The other issue might be that you have an upgraded audio system from the factory. I installed a JVC CD player in my 91 E150 last year, the van came with premium audio so I had to bypass the stock amp (underneath the speaker grill in the dash) and it worked perfectly with the factory Ford speakers. But I replaced the door speakers with some Pioneer 2 ways and added a 170 amp with a 12" pioneer sub....no bass problems here.
Having no bass is usually a sign that you have 1 speaker hooked up correctly and the other one crossed. When that's done, the bass cancels itself out (like an interference pattern if you've ever seen one of those)
86rustbucket is right in that if you had the Premium Sound package in the 91 & earlier models, then there is a factory amp under the dash speaker grille which needs removed/ bypassed but I have no idea where it is on a 98.
Also, I'd make sure that none of the speaker wires have been run to ground... that was fine to do on older low-powered systems but will munch your FETs for breakfast.
