Question More Stupid questions.....

Should I be using a fuel additive in my new PSD. I have heard of Stanadyne from alot of people? I have 600 miles on the truck. What exactly doea an additive do compared to not adding anything? I just want to do the best thing for the truck. OHHH and another one do you run additive year round or just winter? I also noticed that when I started my truck after letting it sit for a few nights temp below 30 f it romped bad for a few seconds with white smoke. I assume this is normal for a really cold engine? I will be plugging it in from now on before I start it after a long sit.
thanks for any help or opinions.

p.s. Can you tell this is my first diesel! HAHA

In the winter it keeps fuel from geling , it boosts your cetain , it breaks up the water in fuel ,allows it to be burned with fuel, it cleans injectors, increases your fuel mpgs, and yes it is good to run year round. just a suggestion leave your truck pluged in when not driving, all the time it is cold.

When it gets below 30 i plug my truck in right when i get home. If i plug it in 3 hrs before i need to go somewhere it doesnt seem to make much of any difference in start up.
