The us senate is going to vote on s.659/s.1806 which is a bill that stops unconstatutional lawsuits against firearm makers, such as ruger, kimber, smith&weson and etc....if you enjoy your guns you need to call senator mark dayton at either 202-224-3244 which is his dc office or email him at http://dayton.senate.gov/webform.html and make your voice heard by urging senator mark dayton to join his colleague senator norm coleman in support of this s.659/s.1806 bill and to oppose all anti gun ammendments.
Sen. Lous-enberg is spouting his version of BS right now. As I listen to him I am always surprised at the quality of BS these liberals spout. It's not even high quality BS, it's the kind that an average joe like me could refute with ease.
He's talking right now about dealers that sell "saturday night specials". I'd like to know at what point he considers a gun a "saturday night special". And not only that, there are a lot of decent people, oftentimes minorities, that live in the inner city, in the bad part of town, that want to defend the family they love. These men and women usually can not afford a 500 dollar gun. It is the 99 dollar gun that these people must buy, as they can afford no more. I for one would not dare to take away their right to defend themselves and their families.
Now he's telling the Senate to imagine the faces of children when told their father or mother has been killed by gun violence. Frankly, I agree that gun violence is horrible, but it is never the fault of the manufacturer. It is more the result of court leniency than anything else these people would have us believe.
Okay, now Sen. Craig from ID is explaining the Lautenberg is a moron. Cool.
Sorry for the play-by-play folks. It's on right now on C-SPAN2.
banning guns or creating gun restrictions does not increase the safety of the public. it disarms innocent citezens that want to protect there familys. it is obsioulsy not working because it is all the thugs and streetpunks in the big cities that have weapons even though there banned in many cities. violence involiving a gun is not the manufacturs fault or the guns fault, it is the SOB that created the viloence that is at fault, the goverment seems to have trouble understaning this, or do they? if they do understand this, I wonder why they are trying to disarm innocent American citezens.
"An armed society is a polite society" -- quote from Robert Heinlein, Author.
I just had to post this. Anyone who is interested in politics should read some of the wonderful stories written by Robert Heinlein. I will list a few of my favorites, the title of the story first, and the social/political subject addressed afterwards.
THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS - Settlers wish to form own state, reduce "taxes"
DOUBLE STAR - Xenophobia and prejudice are put into perspective
DELILAH AND THE SPACE RIGGER - The man-vs-woman in the workplace issue
I admit that these stories do not openly describe gun ownership , but in many instances(in the stories) the characters are aware that others are equally "armed" and that misbehaviour in certain circumstances could (and would) be fatal. For information about "misbehavior", just read one of the books listed. NOTE: THE MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS is the best story to learn about "misbehaviour" because the Martians (DOUBLE STAR) will kill you if you misbehave, or show up late for an appt.(read the story!(s))
sorry about the ranting, I just like the old S.F. stories that make fun of all the politicians.
Gentlemen,This thread is taking a bad turn and it is going to get locked if we dont take it back to the original issue.I am all for this bill,I think they should add to it and stop all of these stupid lawsuits, like the hot coffee issue,These foolish lawsuits are just wasting money, and the only one who really profits are the smooth talking ambulance chasers.
KT, I agree whole heartedly. I am waiting for the first lawsuit against the auto companies because some idiot drove drunk and killed someone. Or a lawsuit against sports manufactures because someone was killed with a baseball bat.
I often wonder how they get these juries to agree with the lawsuits and award penalties.
