I'm going to have to say no to the cummins thing, but you never know. If I remember correctly, most of these were formed at "DIF" or the Detroit Iron Foundry, which can be found cast on some blocks. I'll have to dig some more to be sure though. What information source did you use to decode the VIN number?
The Edsel was introduced as a 58 model and named after Edsel Ford. I think he was Henrys son but may have been a grandson. The car just never found a market niche and after 3 years of production it was deemed a failure and the make was discontinued
