Question Diagnostic Codes???

Howdy All!
I bought the Super tuner chip to help my truck out a little! Well it hasn't done a thing as far as I am concerned! I have a 1998 F-150 4x4 4.6L I used to get the Code reading of 401. Well I went and changed the DPFE Sensor and the EGR valve. The engine light goes out for the first time since I have the truck, which has been about a year now! It stayed out for about 2500 miles and is back on now! I did the check again and now I get the diagnostic code of PO 420. Which is "Catalyst Sys Efficiency below Threshold (Bank-1)" I called the ford folks and got different answers! It seems like they don't know anything unless I bring it in for a wallet tune-up! I am getting the answers ranging from the Catalyst itself, Oxy sensor, MAF sensor, a Bad DPFE sensor, which is new! And again the EGR Valve! I find it hard to believe that the Catalitic converter is shot when the muffler system is practically new! Can you all give me some input on this? It seems like all the right answers are from here! Any help will be appreciated!

It is saying that the emission level on the right bank(passenger side) is higher than allowed by the OBD-II. It could be either a bad converter or a bad Rear O2 sensor.
Are the converters new too??

Sorry to say but my 1997 F150 4x4 4.6l did same thing .. only problem was.. what was causing the o2 sensor to fail was the head gasket was leaking antifreeze into the #4 cyl. which is on the right side of the vehicle. Just hope you don't have the same problems I did, but it is something to look at.... cost around $1800 to get fixed (if it is just the gasket).

The cats are apparently new LxMan1. They looked all shiny and the pipes were of new steel looking! I had the reading of the o2 sensor before, but disregarded it because of the code 401 problems that I've had for so long! I figured that because the DPFE sensor was so clogged, the o2 sensor was sorta of getting used to the idea of being used properly again and would shake out, if that makes any sense! So I erased that code and ran it for the 2500 miles I mentioned until the new code of 420 came to be!
So do you think that if I replaced the bank-1 o2 sensor, which is the passenger side, it would help?

Thanx Man!

It's worth a shot. It could just be going bad.

EDIT: Try swapping the two rear O2 sensors from side to side. When the light comes back on, see if the problem moved to bank 2. If so, then you have a bad sensor. If not, then you have other problems. This way you won't just be spending money trying to diagnose the problem.
