I just purchased a Tekonsha PRODIGY ™ Brake Controller and I am wondering about the hook-up. I found the wiring in the glovebox to hook it up, but it says it requires a 20 amp circuit breaker so is that already on my truck? Do I need to know any other info before the install?
i just bought the same thing and hooked up the plug so i may be able to help. the plug for wireing harness-open the panel under you steering wheel(has 4 plastic screw heads you can use a quater to un screw them, they only turn like a half turn)in that opening to the right and towards the top you will see a black harness plug(you may have to move this out of the way)to the right of that is a metal frame with some holes in it, thru one of the holes you should be able to see a gray open plug with silver prongs in it . that is where you plug in the harness that came with the truck. now if you want to make it real easy you can get a harness that plugs into that factory plug and plugs into the brake controller(this is what i did) the place that sold you the controller should have the harnesses as well. hope this helps
ps. someone else just went thru all this with me a couple weeks ago so i felt i sould pass it on
The fuse may or may not be in the truck when you buy it. I have had one (2003 F2500 with all fuses and relays installed, and one (2001 F150) that had the fuses and relays in the parts bag.
I just bought one (haven't installed it yet) and I had the same question. Plus, the website where I bought mine said that you should run a separate ground on the F250/350 if the ground is connected to the firewall.
Does anyone know if the '03 F250's have the ground connected to firewall? Or, does everyone connect it to the factory harness and go?
There you go Carl, and a recommendation from Naf to boot! Can't beat that with a stick. I see you also got the 5.4L Power Stroke Gas, how do you like it?
Thanks guys for the help.
n578md, I have never heard my engine referred to as a power stroke gas before, but its not bad. I wish the gas mileage was a little better.
