Aekisu....other ZERO RUST users.....got a ??
It has been a while but once you made the comment you use or have used the product ZERO RUST, with success. I have a couple of questions to yourself and others who use this product.
I have contacted the manufacturer directly but have yet to receive and answer, so I thought why not ask those who use it.
To start out, I am wanting to use this as my body color, not frame, well, maybe both, but specifically for the body right now. Shooting for a dull black, maybe topcoating with the crystal clear top coat, undecided that far.
Have you had any problems applying this over existing automotive paint? I have an 87 ford truck and would rather not strip to metal if not needed, other than to weld of course. The webiste did mention it was best to apply to bare metal, but wasn't certain if anyone had success applying to paint?
Since I am wanting to do body work, obviously adding patch panels and my being an ametuer, I will need to use body filler, which brings me to my next question. Does this product adhere well to body fillers? I am thinking of using metal 2 metal (aluminum particles mixed with filler compound)
ONce I apply this product the next obvious answer would be, if I apply the crystal clear top coat, and the shine isn't enough should I go that direction, can I use a rubbing compound and/or polish on this finish, and will it make a difference or is what you put down what you get?
Did any of you use the "prep product" supplied by ZERO RUST?
Thanks
Although not really designed to be used as an auto finish coat, I have use ZR as such.
After sanding with some 400 grit on a DA sander, I shot 2 coats of ZR over the top of the previous paint. It worked well. After UV fading, it had the appearance of the old hotrod black primer. The owner liked it so well, he never had the pickup painted. The ZR was still working when he sold it 5 years later.
You won't have any problem with applying ZR over filler. I don't think I would apply filler over ZR.
I don't have enough experience with Crystal Coat to really comment on the buffing question. Like anything else, you would want to apply enough coats that you wouldn't cut through when sanding and buffing. I don't know how it would respond to the actual process.
Send me some email and I'll put you in touch with my ZR rep.

I would not use Crystal Coat as the top coat because it is thermoplastic and I'm afraid would not color sand and buff without resoftening. I personally like the U-POL clear over ZR.
I hope this helps jw.
I am in the process of some engine modifications, once I am happy with them, I can move towards the body work. I appreciate your help, laterWhere would I find a good source for U-POl clear? I will check but should you now of one of the top of your head, feel free to let me know.
