I am having problems with my 97 ford f-150. On the way back home i notices an antifreeze smell comming out of the heater when i turned it on. there was a film flowing out of the defrost also. the truck never got hot the temp stayed below the half way mark. when i kill the truck i can hear a leak but cannot find it. from reading some of the post i think i am going to have to take it to the ford house. any help would be great.
thanks
mike
From what you said, it sounds like your heater core is the culprit. Not the easiest thing on the truck to replace....lookin' at about 8 hours to replace, but if you do it yourself, you could save a lot of money.
Ohh no, bad times man. Sounds like you have a leaky heater core. Our heater cores have trays under them to collect anything that is released from them so that probably why there isn't a puddle on your carpet. I too have the same problem.
It will continue to get worse if it isn't fixed.
Be ready to spend at LEAST $400 if your going to get it reapired. If you have the time though buy a Chilton's manual and do it yourself, but trust me it is not easy.
yea it sounded bad til i found a shop that will put it in for under $200. it should be out tommorrow so i'll let ya'll know if it was worth it or not. thanks to all for the help.
It will be 200.00 till they see its not a 96 with the drop out core plate under the dash... or you will have a busted dash... or they are the most generous peeps on earth..
