Body Lift

My truck has a set of 265's on it, on a set of eagle alloy 16 x 8's. It looks like it dont have no fenderwell clearence compared to later model trucks and i was wonderin if it would look goofy with a 3 inch body lift... really all i want is a couple more inches of fenderwell cleanrence i dont realy car about highth

Do a 2 or 4 inch suspension lift. I hear the body lifts make a truck 'tippy'.

Any time you increase the height of a truck, body lift OR suspension lift, without making the track width wider via wider tires or more offset rims, the truck will have a higher center of gravity which will make the truck feel like it leans more when turning.
Either way you go, you'll have that effect to some extent. With that in mind, if you want a cheaper lift, a body lift is the way to go. As far as looks, it will expose more of the frame which is your call as to whether or not it looks "goofy". I personally don't think so.
A suspension lift is more expensive and keep in mind, the higher you go with a suspension lift, you'll possibly have to buy longer shocks, a dropped pitman arm, or longer brake lines. With a body lift, generally the concerns are steering shaft length, fan shroud clearance, wiring harness lengths and shift linkage.
Both lifts have their pro's and con's. Cost wise, the body lift is the way to go.
Just my two cents

The body lift will not be raising the center of gravity as high as a suspension lift since the frame and drivetrain stay down low.

Good point, and another good reason to go with the body lift.

I think so, just try to visualize what it will look like with a 3" body lift. Or better yet, hold a tape measure up from the top of the tire and measure up 3", it will give you an idea of where it will be and what it would look like.

hey man, i had that same situation. i have a 79 f150 supercab 4x4.when i bought it the stock tires were still on it.i went ahead and put a three in body lift on it and afterwards i realized it did look goofy.but i guess it depends on your definition of goofy.i went and bought some 13/33/16 tsl swampers and some rock crawler rims and it looks sweeet! but thats if you like the beefy look, its not tippy either

Hey chmuraman where did you get the body lift from?? I have a 77 F250 ext cab and I haven't seen a body lift for the ext cab yet. To be honest I haven't looked yet for that but it was in the back of my mind to do sometime in the future. So let me know.

hey ron, i got the lift from summit magazine, it was a performance accessories 3 in body lift.if my memory serves me correctly it only cost about 80 bucks. it was easy to install(with the exception of removing the rusty bolts!!) with very minor fabrication. i have a 4 spd manual and i had to weld in a 3 in extension to my clutch pedal rod.(extention was included). hope that helps.

my truck has a 4inch susp and 3inch body lift. .......I'm not running small tires I have 35 in dick cepek mud countries but it definitely doesn't look goofy (except that my gf says it needs bigger tires...........I love that girl haha) I suppose 3 inch could look kinda odd w/ those tires.....but if it does when the tires need replacing just get slightly larger ones......then when ya get tired of that add a susp lift to the body lift and get bigger tires......and your truck will never stop growin

ive seen in the magizins a cover for the body to frame gap that you see through the fenderwell when you have a body lift but you could make one yourself out of some sheetmetal or some ruber. also put the bumpers back in the correct relationship with the body because that is when they look doofy when that is not done.
