Hey everyone, my 1982 as some of you might know has been in storage for about 3 and a half years waiting to come home in July. Anyways, I put a rebuilt carb on it, the 1BBL, back in the summer of 2000. That really made a big difference in starting. It would only take 2 or 3 presses of the gas pedal to start. But about 2 monthes ago it started requiring more and more times pressing the gas pedal to start. Im up to around 40 times to get it to start now. I start and drive the truck anywhere from one to two times a week, for about 15 to 20 minutes to let everything get hot. I know the acclerator pump is working cause when I looked down the carb while moving the throttle linkage I could see gas come out. Any help would be great, thanks Fred
Do you see fuel the first time you pump the accelerator? If not then the carb is going dry between starts. Usual cause is a leak in the accelerator/ power valve diaphram. And yes serving_time is correct if the choke doesn't set on the Carter YF carb they can be a pain to get to start.
i've got a 1984 F-150 4x4 300-6 w/ single barrel...i was told that it was a Motorcraft carbeurator....true info? false? mis-informed? the egr has a Motorcraft sticker on it...
Hey wtroger, I'll have to check on that to see if im getting fuel on the first pump. I'll do that the next time I go to the truck. I have noticed that as soon at you move the throttle before starting the choke closes. Im pretty sure thats what its supposed to do right? I've always been a little concerned with this carb because right after I put it on back in 2000 I had the choke close on me on a cold winter morning while driving down the road which caused the truck to stall. Everysince then its been ok. Thanks for the info guys. Fred
My 84 f150 with 300 six has a Carter YF feed back carb it may say motorcraft on it but it was built by Carter. Yes the choke should close when cold with the first pump the pedal. It also should open a little when it first starts to kepp from flooding.
