I tore down a 350 one time, and found some thin metal shims under the main bearings. They were cut out of Coors beer aluminum cans. Just the right thickness for a worn crankshaft!!!
I would pull the heads and see what you have or don't have inside there.

But you see what I mean...good story...just hard to believe...not sure what happened to piston...I would have assumed it was in bottom of pan...because the wristpin was still in rod
But that is why I look at everything ...
because "some" ppl will do anything to sell a unknowing person a pile of junk..
And justshootme84.....someone must have had a degree in jerry rigging...to come up with the shim idea...LOL

Just get a new one
You won't regret getting a new engine. I bought mine from a canadian company called advance, not the same as the US auto parts firm, for 1400. It's a short block and came with a 3 year warranty. An engine swap, if done with the exact type as the original, probably on average takes little more time than doing a valve job and leaves you MUCH less to worry about in the long run.
