[updated:LAST EDITED ON 31-Dec-01 AT 02:16 AM (EST)]I'm sure one of you guys has the info I need here. I'm about to buy a truck & I ran into a '99 F250. This must by a light duty truck because it looks almost identical to an F150. I was contemplating an F250 SD eventhough I won't be towing a whole lot. I'm wondering if this F250LD is significantly more robust than the F150 with the same 5.4 engine?
yes it is a bit more robust. I believe it has a high GVWR due to it's 8 lug axles and probably uprated suspension and brake components. I think it's gvw is 7700#. The SD is a LOT more truck!
The F250LD is no longer made. Instead, it is merely an option package on the F150. You may have seen an F150 that says "7700" on the tailgate as a part of the "F150" badge. The "7700" package is the same as what was the F250LD from '97 to '99. It has a SEVEN lug 10.25" semi floating rear axle, which is much lighter than the full floating axle in the Superduty.
Think of the F250LD as a beefed up F150. The Superduty is a completely different truck.
Thanks guys for your input. I had heard that this truck might have a 7 lug configuration, not sure I like that. I'm looking to lift this truck & customize it a bit & it's a lot harder to find off the shelf stuff when your truck isn't quite "the standard".
ya, id like to know what ford was thinkin when they decided to go with a 7 bolt pattern! that makes as much sense as the metric wheels they tried on some of the mustangs in the early 80's. im not sure, but i have heard that the 5.4 in the LD f-250 is a hotter engine then the one in the SD f-250 in 99' and 00'. is this true or not?
