Thanks. Trying to decide if the slight improvement time in warm-up is worth it or not. It starts fine either way. Has only been down to around 12 F so not a major problem to get lit off in the morning.
I don't idle very long. Don't want to start arguments but I'm not a big fan of idling to warm up. Back a long time ago (20 yrs) I had a Pete with a 400 Cummins. All I ever did was let the white smoke clear up and then ease off. Just didn't get after it for 10 minutes or so. Same with my Ford. I've got oil pressure---I can go. Just easy for a few minutes. My feeling (IMHO) is that it is easier on the motor and you get a better overall warmup if you are driving. Like I said though---just easy for a few minutes.
Just my opinion.
If your worried about the cost of running the block heater all night, put a timmer on it. I installed one that is rated for 2000 watts and outdoor use. I leave for work at 6:00AM so I have it come on at 3:00AM and go off at 7:00AM. Warms the engine enough that when I start it up I only run it about 5 minutes and temp. gage starts to go up. Really cuts down on the cost of pluging it in all the time. Hope this helps!!!
Thanks---Did that this evening. I thought I had one laying around out in the shop that wasn't used. It's only rated for 1500 watts but should be fine. I set it for 5 am. I'll see how that works with a 7 or so fire up. Not really a have to since it only has been going down to around 15-20. Just want to see how it does.
This is a great board. Can't believe how much some folks modify their trucks.
