I just recently traded in a 4.6l F-150 for a used 2000 F-250 with the V-10 Engine with just over 16000 miles. Everyone comments on how loud the engine is and that it sounds "sorta" like a diesel. Is this normal? I have changed the oil and have not noticed anything "funny", Its not really a "ping" per say. just loud. Am I cruising for a meltdown? I bought the truck from a dealer, as a matter of fact a dealer my family has been buying Ford vehicles from for over 50 years.

The V10 is a little loud, but nowhere near as noisy as a diesel. Head back over to the dealership and listen to a few other V10s and see if they make the same noise.

 

I wonder if he's experiencing exhaust flutter?? Tell us more about the noise. Is it all the time or at certain RPM's? The V10 usually purrs like a kitten.

Its at certain rpm's. Usually right below 2000. When I hit the Interstate it gets quieter.
