Loud V-10?

Loud V-10?
I just recently traded in a 4.6l F-150 for a used 2000 F-250 with the V-10 Engine with just over 16000 miles. Everyone comments on how loud the engine is and that it sounds "sorta" like a diesel. Is this normal? I have changed the oil and have not noticed anything "funny", Its not really a "ping" per say. just loud. Am I cruising for a meltdown? I bought the truck from a dealer, as a matter of fact a dealer my family has been buying Ford vehicles from for over 50 years.

Its at certain rpm's. Usually right below 2000. When I hit the Interstate it gets quieter.
