The manual lists the 302 as a "G" code on the vin # and also contains a section for rebuild of the 302. Maybe it wasd used in F-100's only?
I found a statement in the '78 manual that says, " The 302 CID V-8 is used as an option on some F-100 and F-150 models."

Check close my vin I have is a G but looks like a C.G =302.I think the truck was a F100 with a 4800gvwr.An F150 should be like f14hc with a 351 a gvrw of 6150.Also I believe theres like F15 is the 4x4 or light duty and f14 is 2wheel.F26 is 4x4 an f25 or light duty is 2wheel.Pretty much the higher the GVWR on the vin plate the better>I just picked up an f250 with a gvwr of 8400.That was also a 400 with 2 dana 60 with a camper special with the snow plow package.. I ran across a site last night with the F14 F15 F25 F26 U150 and U151 so Im probably a little off.
