My '97 250 with 5spd recently got very difficult to crank. By that, I mean that the clutch has to be pushed not just TO the floor, but very hard AGAINST the floor. This was a sudden thing. I know there's a "safety switch" designed to make it impossible to crank without the clutch being depressed, so my guess is there's a problem with that. Anybody ever had anything similar?

DO you mean difficlut to crank as in SLOW or as in it WON'T crank without your foot thru the floor. If it is the latter, I disabled my "safety" swtich on my C***y (sorry, I didn't mean to swear.) I located the actuator on the clutch pedal arm itself. Mine just happened to be connected via a spring. I took it off and set the switch so that it "thought" that the clutch was in. Never had a problem...Your switch and location may vary. Simple stuff. Hardest part is contorting you body to see up underneath the dash.
no, it cranks like a rocket once i push the pedal to (through)the floor. It's like the switch that disables the starter until the clutch is fully depressed. There's no problem with the motor itself cranking.
