My dad has a 94 idi turbo diesel. I've heard the stock downpipes on these arn't the best. Does anybody know where to buy upgraded exhaust parts for this kind of truck.
The turbo system was an ATS turbo. The Ford improved it till it did not work right. They have all the stuff to unfix Ford's fix.
The three inch downpipe is a trick to get in the stock truck. I put a two inch body lift on mine and I have all kinds of room without any other cab modifications.
I think you have to fold over a cab seam to make room without the body lift. You can not really tell I have a lifted cab on mine at two inches. Check my gallery for pics. I do not have any pics of the turbo downpipe there yet.
I can not answer that for sure, I have not spent much time compairing both closely.
I am happy enough with my 86 that I am not interested in a newer truck at all.
Hey Dave I see ya have a dump body on your truck. were did ya get the hoist for it. I have a reading flatbed on my truck and would love to make it dump. By the way one nice truck ya have love the stacks.
The hoist is a Rugby electric over hydraulic unit. Rated at 7 tons to full dump in 30 seconds. I got it through the dealer I got my flatbed through. Hoist and subframe were 1300 and the flatbed was 700. Took me about 12 hours to do the install including original bed removal.
It has paid for it's self about 5 times already in 6 years. I haul a lot of concrete demo, debris, dirt and stone on construction jobs. With 4 wheel drive I can go places big trucks can not, and I do not have to worry about breaking driveways to much either.
Thanks for the kind words about the truck, I am building all the things into it that Ford left out.
The guys at the Ford dealership just shake their head when I roll in the lot with a load on it. They told me a new 550 would not stand up to what I do with that old 250 for as long as I have done it.
The Dodges stay back from me and the Dura Trash will not even come around at all. I don't understand why.
Hey I just noticed you are in Bucks County, Pa. That hoist came out of Uniontown, Pa. I will try to find out the name of the place in the next couple of days.
Or come on down to the Wild and Wonderful.
I 79 Trailer Sales off the Saltwell exit. 40 minutes from the Pa line on South 79.
Okay thanks. I use my truck for farming and a hoist on her would pay for itself very quickly. with the 4x4 i can go places are grain truck cant plus for smaller iish loads it would be the ideal rig. They just dont build them like they used i guess casue ive hauled way more with my truck then some brand new much bigger trucks can do.
Ltfox, I was checking out a Power Stroke today. The turbo downpipe is completely different. So is the turbo. No way I can see that it would work on a IDI motor without major modifications.
