hey dudes and dudettes! i been reading and hearing all this about restrictor plates. please can anyone tell me if a restrictor plate was only used by nascar and not the factory line. what i mean is does my 69 torino come with a restrictor plate and if it does have one i wana take it off. how do i find this thng ,please?
thank you.
You probably don't have one. NASCAR put them on to kill horsepower and thus reduce speeds at Talladega and Daytona. For comparison: this year, qualifying times were in the 188 mph range; without restrictor plates Bill Elliot was 212 mph or so in 1987. Since Ford didn't put carburetors on anything after '87, there's gonna be no restrictor plate on any production vehicle.
hey EPNCSU2006, thanks for the info. i saw it on speed yesterday and i don't agree with having plates as a saftey precaution, with more speed less grouping on the trac . more speed =more spacing =less group wrecks =more fun for our buck !
thanks again.
Well, if everyone ran flat out they'd all be running about the same speed. They would still have to draft to be competitive so there would still be a group, only now it's going 40mph faster. And there would also be a 'big one'.
