its mounted to the front of your upper intake manifold. only takes 4 bolts to unbolt it and have to remove the throttle cable and possibly a couple rubber hoses. why you cleaning it? looks?

whats the best way to clean the outside of the body? i'm rebuilding a 302 and the throttle body is of course pitted. just old looking aluminum. is there a good way to make the outside of it look like new again? any ideas?
Careful on using carb cleaner. Some of the throttle bodies (like mine) have a special coating on the inside that the carb cleaner strips off (you'll see a sticker on the throttle body saying "do not clean" or something like that - don't worry about it though). I'd recomend getting a throttle body cleaner - it's supposedly safe for the coatings. As Mustang said, you just take off the intake tubes and spray the inside as per the directions.
The "special coating" is on the inside. Carb cleaner will take it off. You can use special throttle body cleaner that won't remove it if you want. But since that coating didn't prevent the TB from getting dirty, IMO it's probably not a big deal if it was removed as long as you keep it clean in the future.
Dang Gregg, we posted at the same time and they say pretty much the same thing.

i have a can of johnsens carb cleaner. is it safe to spray the inside, it won't do any harm will it? i know you said it might strip the coating but does that coating do much good?
Be careful when you clean the Throttle Body, and replace the gasket before you put it back on, dont forget that step, when the throttle body is back on, but not completely, start the engine, and spray air intake cleaner while it is running, it will bog down, but it will clean it.
