Hi Everyone, just registered, looks like I've found a great sight for info! My question is I have a 84 F/S Bronco with a 300 I/L 6 cyl. and have found a donor 78 Bronco with a 351m in it. Both have standard trannies but I would like to keep the tranny that I have 4spO/D. How much work is involved swapping a six to an eight and will it bolt to my existing tranny? I asked a transmission guy and he said it would bolt right on without making any changes.
since both are 4spd yes it will using the 351M's bellhousing mate to your 4spd. but the I6 uses the small block bolt pattern IE. I6,302,351w. 315m/400 is big block pattern 460/429.
as for the motor swapping right over. No you'll have to hunt dowd a early 80's 3/4 or 1ton to get the frame mounts for the 351m. Your easiest swap wouild be a 302 or 351W.
If the price is right on the 78 bronco donor go a head nd pick it up because you can swap swap all the drive ntrain into yours for a solid D44 in your 84. a good 351m can be sold easily to get some $$ back. and a bullet proof NP205 Tcase for your bronco to replace the np208's found in 84.
This might sound silly, but which bolt pattern are you referring to, the bellhousing? So it wouldn't bolt on? Couldn't you use the frame mounts from the donor? Any info would be great.
what he is sayin is. you will need the bellhousing that is currently bolted to the 351m to replace the housing that is bolted to your 300-6 /tranny. the frame mounts from the doner rig wont work on the 84. personally i feel the 351m is a boat anchor. there is little aftermarket mods for it . I would pass it up and find yourself a 351w because parts and aftermarket are more plentiful.
