First I want to thank this site for having the information to get my truck fixed Friday (it was the cam sensor). It was the first time in 8 years of ownership that the truck left me on the side of the road. Pulled it home and read around on a few sites...jumped on the Yamaha, bought a cam sensor at the IH dealer, drove the sucker to work that night.
Thanks a lot.
Now, I have a nice propane system. It has a tank that fit's under a tool box and is 100% complete (actually on my truck right now). It is set up very conservative for mileage but ads a legit 45-50 HP. I paid $1100 for it and am asking 600.
If anyone is interested let me know. I haul motorcycles a lot and with the short bed, I'm needing the space back so I can close the tailgate. Speaking of that, I'd trade it for a nice motorcycle trailer and we could even work it out to put it on a credit card if needed because I need new tires anyway. Other trades such as f/arms, programmers/chips etc. considered.
I'll post it in the P/Stroke sections as well but sincerely thanks for the troubleshooting information.
never heard of a propane system adding hp. All the ones I have seen made the truck a dog and did'nt get any better mpg, properly converted #s of coarse.
On the Turbo Diesel's the Propane injects with the Diesel and isn't converted to run on it like a gas engine. It takes the burn efficiency on the Diesel up into the 95% range. The one on my truck is set up on the conservative side and makes a legit 45 extra HP as measured with a Vericom, not seat of the pants. It increases the range and adds about 2 mpg but when you factor in the Propane costs it comes out a little ahead but not much. The real value comes from the oil staying a lot cleaner and besides the cost of the system 40-60 real HP without any ongoing cost.
The Powerstroke and Cummins power junkies run the Propane, Reprogrammers, Air Filter System of choice, and the exhaust of choice. I have only the Propane and a K & N air filter on mine no interest in more power really just clean oil and economy were the reason I bought it.
You are correct about Propane conversions on gas engines but this is something all together different.
