Can anyone help me with a lighting problem? i have a 94 4.0L 4x4 with 120,000miles. about a week ago, i noticed that the turn signals were flashing very slow. this usually means that i have a light burnt out so i checked the front and back flashers. all are still lit and flash very slowly with brake off and they don't flash at all with the brake on. also, with headlights on, brake lights go black...yes, i got pulled over already too...along with the brake lights going black, my cruise control does not work with the lights on either. finally, i am getting constant abs warning on the dash with the headlights on. please help me with my problem, i feel that it may be a bad ground somewhere but i don't know where. i tried hooking the negative terminal on the battery to jumper cables and forming grounds with the engine, cab and frame but none changed a thing.
Having a dead or near dying battery will do that too. Once on my old Tempo, the wipers would come on by themselves, lights would go out and come on, radio would cut out. It would depend on what current was required from the battery. Having a bad alternator didn't help either. But that was my problem. Yours may be different.
I agree, it sounds like a bad multifunction switch. This would be an XLNT time to get your hands on an "electrical & vacuum troubleshooting manual" from www.helminc.com It will tell you how to very simply test the multifuction switch.
ok, thanks for the advice, but do you know easy tests for the switches? the book is $30 and i need to get this project going and finished soon as i have no other trasportation. ps..my battery is 4 months old.
A Haynes manual will tell you how to get to the MFS & i've heard that Clymer makes a good electrical trouble shooting manual. See if you can find it for your 94 at the library.
