I have a PG Power Lok in my TTB dana 44 on a 1991 ford bronco. The hubs are Warn Premiums and it's a 4.10 gear ratio. I just had the locker put in about 6 months ago and it seemed to work fine, but this weekend while four wheeling in snow I got stuck and someone noticed my right front tire was only spinning in reverse.
Now, as I understand, this is a 90%+ lockup and in snow with little traction, both tires should have been spinning in forward and reverse. Why would it work in reverse but not forward? bad teeth in the locker or hub on that side?
The track lok is actually a limited slip diff and will give you a 50% traction increase over open. When a rig is at a complete stop, that don't function very well. If you feather the brakes, it well help it some by slowing done the spinning tire and maybe shift some power to the wheel with traction. Also, when it was installed, did you put friction modifier in the diff?
I'm not familiar with the Power Lok. Is this a locker or a LS?
There are some locker designs that use sprag clutches and only lock in one direction. I don't know if yours is that type or not. If it is, it's functioning normally.
The Power Lok is a slightly more aggressive ls. It is the same basic design as the Track Lok ie it has clutch packs using friction disks. These were designed by Dana. Precision Gear (PG) is manufacturing a version of both of these under PG Track Lok and PG Power Lok. Reider Racing sells them. I see that I said Track Lock in my previous post. The post is still valid since the 2 are the same basic design. The Power Lok is better for offroad applications.
