On my Aerostar, it runs great! But with one agravaiting problem! The Idle when sitting still is kinda boucy or a little rough! Its not too bad at all but you can feel it shake a little! Its just not right and I know it didnt run like that when it was new! Anyway, I have "no" hesitation in power, it starts without a problem on cold mornings, it doesnt miss fire, and no broken motor mounts! It runs terrific except with that agravaiting problem. I have replaced Distributor, dist. Wires, spark plugs! does it sound like it might be this "MAF sensor" problem? I read some of the posts concerning it but their problems seemed more severe.! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!! Tommy
Sounds like the Mass Air Sensor needs cleaning along with the Idle Control Solenoid. A good spray cleaner specifically for fuel injection will help. You need to pull the air hose from between the air box and sensor to clean it but be gentle and don't damage the grid. The throttle body can be removed and cleaned or you can get halfway there and clean it on the vehicle by spraying the inside holding the plate open. The ICS should be removed to give it a good cleaning. Might be a good time to have the injectors clean which can be done in a service shop or by buying the kit yourself and following directions. It depends on howcomfortable you are with doing all the work yourself.
I do appreciate it, I did have in my schedule tomarrow to take it in and have the injectors clean,,,,,So Hopefully this will solve the problem! If not, I will be reposting about my outcome, Thanks Again!......Coop
Had the same problem with mine cleaned the maf sensor, throttle body, plugs helped some but the erratic idle was still present only not as bad .Noticed that the tranny fluid was quite low wasnt slipping or anything but as soon as i top up the tranny fluid it smoothed right out(.Just a thought ) Let us know how its progressing. Just curious did the check engine light come on at all?
