I am about to by a high performace intake, i saw a few post that said that people LOVED the TYMAR but didn't say why they loved it. Before i dump 170 into an intake i need to know why you all love the tymar so much over the K&N and please tell me why.

In a nutshell. Tymar uses a huge Donaldson filter element. It flows as good or beter than the K&N and filters much better. You get the best of both worlds, great flow and filtration. I personally use the Ford AIS severe duty system, but the Tymar is just as good in my opinion, but I did want an open element system in order to keep the noise down a little bit better.
Reason's I have a Tymar:
Filter's better, Donaldson Filter
More Air than the PS knows what to do with.
Easy install, about 20 minutes, that's for my truck.
And it's cool to hear that cat scream under there!
Plus the price.
K&N, I had one. I think I could find something better to do than pick dead bugs out of the filter and wait on it to dry after cleaning it. Takes about 10 minutes to put a new Donaldson on it and I'm back in business. If you need info on micron's and such, their on the forum. I remember a thread about a bench test that was done, but that was a while back. The AIS SD is a good system too if you are around dirt alot. I believe the AIS SD was engineered by Donaldson for Ford. It's your truck and your choice. Good Post.
hey when you change the intake to the tymar, because of the greater airflow do you have to get the computer programed/flashed or whatever you want to call it to compensate for more air or does the computer ust now on its own, so just bolt it on and drive it like you stole it?
mybigredford, Just bolt it on and drive. No need to mess with the ECM.
I have a Tymar because of the Donaldson filter, I am an old heavy diesel mechanic and Donaldson is the best filter made. The Tymar is very simple, easy to install. I also prefer a new filter rather then a old washed one.
1. It flows more air than the K&N
2. It filters a lot better than the K&N
3. It's less expensive than almost any other intake, including K&N
4. It's easy to install
5. I love to hear my turbo whine!!!
Bossman you can get them at Truck Pro or any big rig parts house. NAPA also carries the big filters also. There are several others. Do a search on the forum. Part numbers for the different filters are available.
I buy my filters at the local CAT heavy equipment dealer ($22). Tymar also sells replacement filters. The Donaldson brand filters are water repellent, I do not know if the other brands are so I stick with the Donaldson. This same filter has applications in marine use so if you are in a area that has a lot of boat dealers you might try there but I bet it will cost a premium at those places.
Was actually thinking about building my own. Thansk for the info on the filters guys. I dose't rain that much here this time of year, but when it does it really does so the water repellant ones seem just a little more attractive to me. Now to see the price diffference.......
