I am interesed in boosting a 5v tachometer pulse into around a 10v-12v pulse so that I can connect an aftermarket gasoline tachometer into my diesel truck. My diesel has a very week signal around 5v and gasoline engine has upwards of 10v I seem to recall. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
What brand of tach do you have? I was just looking at autometer's website, and they have a lot of info. Whatever brand of tach you have, I would call the manufacturer and they may make an adapter for your tach to work on your truck.

If you e-mail me (through my profile), I'll draw you a circuit schematic that will work for you (1 N-channel FET, and 3 resistors), and e-mail it to you....
thank you for your help Bob, and Franklin my tach is a Sunpro 5" Powerline. Bob, since I am new to the forum I am not allowed to send emails to people. If you could e-mail me and I will reply to you with some information. Is it hard to build an inline signal amplifier? Do you think it will work or will the signal be delayed compared to the true RPM. Please reply, your a great help.

Ok Big Red, I'll try and e-mail you through your profile!!!
The signal delay through the common source amplifier will be in the 1-2 NANOSECOND (10-9 secs.) range, this will not be a problem!!! Do you have any experience building up circuits from schematics????
