V10 vs. Diesel
BTW, NoMo turned me on to this site. It's good for all you guys (lucky enough to be able to lift and put bigger tires on
) help you figure out proper gearing. [link:www.www.ring-pinion.com/calc-rpm.html|Randy Ring & Pinion Calculator]1995 F-250 Ext. >for the Sterling 10.5"...But you're right Abendx, 5.38's
>would be better.
5.38's are actually the lowest i could find..... 4.56 would be the next step higher. randy's stocks these gears. i wish they would make a few more sizes for that sterling 10.5... 4.88's and 5.13's would make better choices for different tire sizes... if you could get a 5.13 that would prob be the best ratio for those 40's.
my next upgrades will be the following in that order....
-lockers.
-winch.
-4" spring hangers and 42" tires or the 4" hangers/3" body and 44" tires. (of course there will be new and exciting driveline issues at this point.
).-5.38 gears.
actually in the latest peterson's there is a pic of some guy that has the 8" fabtech and 4" superlift hangers with cutouts (fender triming of course) and is running 44 inchers... that is one mean looking superduty!!! i may go that route vice the body lift since i am no real fan of them....
hummm... so many things to do... so little cash to do them with. lol.

??????? All the Super Duties('99 and up) 250-350 have had solid front axles on the 4WD.
The only advantage to an '02 is ALL the 4WD's now have the dana 60 front.(250 or 350)

>setup... WAY stronger!!!!
I agree 100% But I disticntly remember Ford owners down playing the Dana 60 advantage to those pesky Dodge owners when all we had was the Dana 50. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
The V-10 was strong, pulled nice and was quick out of the whole. I averaged 8/10mpg and 6-7 towing. As mentioned earlier, you don't buy these big 4x4's for mileage. The fact my PSD gets 12/15 is just icing on the cake.
The price difference to me was just that, + $4730. I wanted a diesel, so justification or not thats what I was getting. If you base it soley on need and really think about it, do you really need an 8000lb vehicle to get you from home to work? Do you need that 32ft 5er to pull to Texoma twice a year to fish? Probably not, but it sure is fun!
So, I'd go with what you really feel inside and get what you want (checkbook & wife permitting) If you don't, you'll regret it.
However, having said that... the 7.3 Ltr Powerstroke diesel is a massive, colossal powerplant with an enormous amount of raw, unbridled potential that exhibits tremendous stump pullin, propane snortin, tire smokin power with a wealth of natural a$$ kickin ability!
How could you not want one of these?
Lane
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Am I the only guy who has towed with a diesel up a hill?? Diesels suck on hills, especially while towing. You think the make that extra lane to the left on the big hills for gassers??
>though with that much lift)consider a diesel.

Actually the slow lanes are made for Chebby's.
>until '02.
SRW....yup
Sorry....I don't know why, but every time I see "F350" I automatically assume Dually.

I gotta go back and learn my left from right.
