i have a v-6 '91 F-150 thats an automatic
my problem is that i can't start it from park anymore, the only way is to jimmy the gear indicator to a specific spot inbetween park and reverse. basically i feel the gear lock in but for some reason the truck doesn't recognize that its in that gear.
is this a lost cause, some thing i'd need to take into a shop for repairs, or something that i can expect to repair myself?
thanks for the help.
To check it out, get under the truck and unplug the connector from the switch (drivers side of tranny). Connect the leads from a multimeter to the two red/blue wires going to the switch, and set the meter to ohms. Have someone shift through the gears, one at a time, while you observe the readings on the meter. In Park and Neutral, it should read 5 ohms or less. In all other gears, it should read greater than 100k ohms. If it doesn't, it needs to be replaced.
