First tow with the V10........
I loved it. This thing would pull until the cows came home and never miss a beat.
I only got about 11.5 on the way down, but coming home I got 14.6 mpg.
I can only attribute the difference to the head wind I had on the first part of the trip. But I love the way this truck pulls. I probably won't ever tow more than about 5000-6000 pounds, so I opted for the v10 over the diesel and am glad I did. I also have the 3.73 gears, not the best for towing heavy loads, but I could climb some pretty steep grades in overdrive doing about 77mph and the truck would never down shift and only fall to about 76 mph.
I just wanted to post my real world obsevations to let anyone know what they can expect. I always hear the mileage debate going on and so I wanted to share my expereince. I don't really care about mileage and this will probably be the only time I will ever check it, but with all the debates I wanted to see what I would get. I also drive with my foot on the pedal. I dont baby the gas, I move out when the light turns green and I love it.
Just for the record, my truck is a 2002 F250 CC v10 short bed lariat with 3.73 LS and 4x4. It is also all stock with about 1700 miles now.
Thanks

We towed from South Jersey to Lake George last year and logged 11mpg to 11.8mpg while towing .
Ive got a 99sd 250cc V10 with a 3.73 ls and auto tranny.
I intend to order a new sd truck this spring and im going to get the 4.30 axle because i have found that in order to keep the tranny from bailing out of od you need to be doing about 70 in hilly terrain.with the 3.73. That gets a little wreckless when pulling 8500lbs.
You shouldnt have any problem with 5000-6000lbs with the 3.73.
good luck with your truck!:-)
