If the transmission is "hard shifting" then I would say that you need to get the transmission looked at soon before you destroy it. However, there is another problem that could seem to be transmission related when in fact its a bad ignition component. Does it shift hard or "stumble"? Can you put it in 1st, hold down the brake and see if the engine stumbles under this load? When my coil pack (right bank) went out, it behaved like this and I thought my tranny was dying. It never threw a code either. Mine "stumbled at 1450rpms. Turned out to be a $45 fix.
